Conference Highlights
The 2016-2017 Wilkes University Women's Tennis Team won the Freedom Conference Title for the tenth straight year (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). The Lady Colonels finished with a school record 24-1 overall record, and qualified for the NCAA National Tournament! The Wilkes Tennis Program is now a combined 205-24 over the past eleven years, with eleven consecutive appearances in the NCAA National Tournament.
Post Season Highlights
The Wilkes Women's team won their eleventh straight Conference title in dominating fashion by winning both playoff matches by identical 5-0 scores. This Wilkes team went to their eleventh straight NCAA National Tournament!! This team has not lost a conference match in the past eleven years (88-0).
Also, this Wilkes team advanced to the second round of the NCAA National Tourney with a 5-3 decision. This was the fifth career NCAA Tourney win for the program.
The Wilkes Women's team was named an ITA All-American Academic Team again!
Tournament Highlights
In 2017, Wilkes University again qualified for the NCAA National Tournament. At NCAA's, Wilkes was won 6 career matches!
This year, Wilkes won their NCAA 1st round match by a 5-0 score! This team has now competed in 11 straight NCAA National Tourneys!
Individual Achievements
Wilkes University placed six members of the tennis team on the All-Conference squad for the 2016-2017 year: Jordan Vasarkovy and Kendra Croker were named to the First Team. Madison Salmon, Taylor Hoffmann, Francesca Varela-Seri and Dana Saliyev were named to the Second Team.
Wilkes University also swept the major awards. Jordan Vasarkovy was named Player of the Year and Wilkes female athlete of the year. Croker was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Year!
Coaching Achievements
Head Coach Leicht led both his women's and men's teams to Conference Titles and NCAA berths this past year. Over the past 11 years, Leicht has won 11 women's titles and 10 men's titles. He has led all 21 of those teams to the NCAA National Tournament!
This year, Leicht was named the PTR National College Tennis Coach of the Year!
Leicht has also been named Conference Coach of the Year 9 times!
Coach Leicht has a 455-96 College Coaching Record, and holds all career tennis records at Wilkes University. Before coaching at Wilkes, Leicht was the head boy's tennis coach at Danville where he posted a career 57-4 record. Leicht's career overall coaching record stands at 512-100.
Coach Leicht is a PTR Certified teaching professional, and also serves on the NCAA Regional Ranking Committee. He is a full-time coach at Wilkes University, and also oversees their indoor athletic tennis facility.
