The other semifinal will pair Cherry Creek's Caroline Schnell, last year's No. 1 singles runner-up, against Denver East freshman Morgan Blanco. Blanco enjoyed one of the more impressive performances of the day, posting straight- set wins over Kaylin McNeil of Dakota Ridge and Palmer's Adriana Wojakowska.
"We thought (Blanco) could make it to the finals if she came out and played her game, and she came out and did that," Denver East coach Michelle Topf said. "We're really proud of her. I think she had a lot of confidence and a lot of court presence, and she wasn't intimidated. She knew she could win by playing her game, and she stuck to her game plan. Her mental game is very strong."
Although team points were not tallied because the quarterfinals were not completed, Cherry Creek remained in line to capture its 14th consecutive team title after advancing six of its entrants to the semifinals.
