The 15-year old Lincoln, Neb. native proved that point Sunday, April 13 with a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4) victory over
Clay Thompson (Venice, Calif.) in the Boys' 16 singles final at The Easter Bowl, USTA Spring National Championships, held at Rancho Las Palmas Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
The victory was Sock's 12th national championship gold ball overall (five singles, seven doubles) and was the highlight of the USTA Missouri Valley contingent that played at Easter Bowl events, April 6-13 in Rancho Mirage and at the Delray Beach Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Fla.
The last two years have been frustrating ones for Sock, who fractured his heelbone in 2006, an injury that lingered and knocked Sock out from parts of both the 2006 and 2007 seasons. But Sock has been on the mend and back on the court consistently since the fall of 2007, and he has been a force since, looking much like the player that reached a former No. 1 USTA ranking in Boys' 12's.
