Gandra Celebrates MIT Commitment with Confetti
Share:

Nishi Gandra sat in front of her computer on 12/17/22 at 12:17 p.m. EST ready to find out about her future. It was the moment MIT released its early action decisions for the 2023 class.

The four-star senior from Mason, Ohio had already secured a roster spot offer on the MIT women’s team, providing she was granted admission to the prestigious Division III school. Gandra’s 10-year-old brother was right by her side, hoping she received good news.

“He was with me when I opened it and we saw the confetti that meant I got in and we were both so excited,” Gandra said. “I just ran to my parents and told them I had gotten in. They were very happy.”

Gandra first reached out to MIT head coach Carol Matsuzaki by email. She was able to watch the team in person for the first time last year when the Engineers competed at National Indoors in Kentucky.

“I loved Coach Carol’s coaching style. I loved how she was a little bit more hands off but stepped in when she felt like a player needed her,” Gandra said. “She really let her players kind of figure things out on their own but not completely leave them hanging.”
