Abigail Rencheli wasn’t prepared for the flood of emotions.
After the blue chip senior from Sarasota, Florida committed to North Carolina State, she let her guard down.

“I was so happy right when I did it, and about five minutes later I was crying because I was remembering all the things my family has been through and all the years spent practicing that led up to this moment,” Rencheli said. “It was really special to get to this point in my life and have that opportunity.”
Rencheli’s recruitment to N.C. State was a bit of a last-minute whirlwind.
N.C. State coach Simon Earnshaw emailed Rencheli’s mother more than a year ago, but she never saw the message.
The two finally connected in late September when a friend of Rencheli’s coach, Cory Cohenour, approached him at a tournament and told him about Earnshaw’s interest.
“I never even thought about North Carolina State,” Rencheli said. “To be honest, I had never even heard about them until that weekend at the tournament. But I probably should have known since they are a program on the rise and ranked highly.”
Earnshaw flew down to watch Rencheli practice a few days later, and she boarded a flight to Raleigh the next day for a visit.
“I was just so impressed by how the team was so nice, but also so intense with how they worked. They just seemed very focused, and I felt like the coaches were really good guys,” Rencheli said. “They say you can feel when it’s your place, and that is how I feel about N.C. State. I felt like I should go there.”
