The countdown to history began at 85 days.

The University of Chicago men’s tennis players used the team’s group chat as their official countdown clock to the ITA Division III National Indoor Team Championships.

Every 24 hours, junior Tyler Raclin would change the name of the chat by subtracting a day on the countdown.

When the big moment finally arrived, UChicago was ready.

The top-seeded Maroons broke through to win the first team Indoor title in program history, defeating three-time defending champion Emory 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Cleveland Racquet Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

“It feels absolutely fantastic because we had been so close to winning it all before,” Raclin said. “We were all really excited for the challenge and came out and really played well. Everyone is really happy.”
