Myles Schalet has decided to leave the East Coast for the Midwest, choosing to play for the Michigan Wolverines in the fall of 2015.

Schalet stated that he did not give a lot to thought to the regional change, "I have been training full time in Miami for the past two years. Although I have grown accustomed to warm weather, I welcome the change of climate - it is very similar to that of the Northeast where I grew up."

Is it ironic that University of Michigan Coach Bruce Berque is also originally from New Jersey? "Perhaps it was not a coincidence that I related and connected to Coach Berque," said Schalet. "After all, Northeasterners do have an unspoken connection."

Schalet's success has been consistent in singles and doubles. The 17-year old saw his stock rise as a recruiting prospect after an incredible summer and fall last year.

It started with a series of titles in the Eastern section before he moved on to make the singles finals and doubles semifinals (with Max Roder) at the USTA Regional Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The five-star recruit hit the Caribbean from there. Schalet won the doubles crown with partner Stefan Cooper of Great Britain at the Coca Cola ITF Tournament in St. Lucia, where Schalet also played into the finals in singles. From there they moved on to St. Vincent, where Schalet won both the singles and doubles titles at the SVGTA ITF Junior International.

After some time back in the U.S. in September, where he picked up a trophy at the USTA Regional Championships in Minneapolis, Schalet went back onto the ITF Circuit with more success. He partnered with American Luke Gamble to win the doubles at the National Bank ITF in Victoria, Canada, before hitting the Bahamas for the Goombay Splash Bowl. He and Cooper lost in the finals this time, and Schalet came home a semifinalist in singles.
