Even as the third sets mounted and the temperatures were over 90 in Florida, Dylan Long didn't waver. His prize: Not only did he win his first USTA ball, he made it gold.

"It's been a goal of mine," said Long, a left-hander from Carmel, Indiana, who was seeded second among 194 players. He outlasted No. 3 Ronit Karki of East Brunswick, New Jersey, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4 in the final at Delray Beach Tennis Center to win the Boys 18 Clay Court Championships.
"We arrived a couple days before the tournament," said Long, a rising senior at Park Tudor School who has committed to Duke and is ranked 10th in his class by the Tennis Recruiting Network. "It's obviously a lot different from where I'm from, and it took some adjusting. A large portion of what kept me going was stretching and to eat the right food, keep your body in the best condition."
