Payton Jim On reached out to the coaches at Santa Clara University on a whim. His level of play had been improving and he decided to take his shot.

But Jim On didn’t think they would actually respond to his email.

“I didn’t really think I would play Division I tennis. I didn’t feel like people were interested in me or if I had the game for it,” said the four-star rising senior from Honolulu, Hawaii. “But I was lucky that coach Niall (Angus) took a chance and reached back out and gave me a rundown of the program.”

After taking a visit to the campus in Northern California, Jim On knew he found the right environment. He has verbally committed to play for the Broncos.

“I have known that school since I was really young and a lot of people from Hawaii went there and still go there, so it’s a pretty big name in Hawaii,” he said. “It’s a very good academic school and the Silicon Valley area is really nice. I could see myself being there and hopefully contributing to the team.”
