Share:

Can the Barry programs prolong their domination at the NCAA Division II Championships?

The Bucs are back to defend both titles this week at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

The men’s teams begin Sweet 16 play on Thursday. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, the semifinals for Sunday and the championship match for Monday.

Valdosta State is the top seed for the men. The Blazers arrive in Orlando with a 19-0 record. Barry is the three-time defending NCAA champion. The Bucs (13-5) have won their last eight matches, including eliminating Saint Leo in the South Region.

A men’s program from the South or Southeast region has won 17 of the last 18 Division II titles dating back to 2004.

The women begin Sweet 16 play on Friday. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday, the semifinals for Monday and the championship match on Tuesday.

Top-seeded Barry is the five-time defending NCAA women’s champion and arrives in Orlando with a 24-0 record and an overall winning streak of 86 matches. The Bucs have reached the national finals for the 25th time, including six straight.

Barry is one of nine Division II schools to have both the men’s and women’s teams advance to Orlando, along with Cameron, Wayne State, Washburn, Charleston, Flagler, Azusa Pacific, Hawaii-Pacific and Columbus State.
