Homecourt Advantage Helps Boost Ahn to Girls 16s Title
Share:

Alyssa Ahn grew up attending the USTA Billie Jean King National Championships. The San Diego native trains at Barnes Tennis Center and always imagined herself standing on the stadium court and being hailed as the champion.

Ahn’s dream became a reality last weekend as she captured the Girls 16s singles title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over unseeded Christasha McNeil of Lindenhurst, N.Y. in front of a supportive hometown crowd cheering for the local favorite.

“It’s been a goal for a long time. I just know how prestigious this tournament is,” said the ninth-seeded Ahn, the first San Diego area resident to win the 16s title since Nicole Mossmer in 2016. “To be a part of it and be in the final was really cool.”
