FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Robin Montgomery had every reason to be exhausted last Saturday as she competed for US Open Junior titles at the USTA's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Due to rain on Wednesday, the 17-year-old from Washington DC was required to play a singles semifinal and two doubles matches Friday, with the semifinal doubles victory over the top seeds ending under the lights.

Yet when Saturday's singles final began early the next afternoon, the seventh-seeded Montgomery showed no signs of fatigue, defeating No. 6 seed Kristina Dmitruk of Belarus 6-2, 6-4 to capture her first junior slam title. Her second came a short time later, when she and partner Ashlyn Krueger defeated Reese Brantmeier and Elvina Kalieva 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 in the all-USA doubles final, leaving Montgomery as the first girl since Michaela Krajicek in 2004 to win both.
Montgomery was at her most impressive in 6-3, 6-2 quarterfinal win over top seed and ITF World Junior No. 1 Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra, who had beaten Montgomery in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Australian Junior Championship en route to the title. In Friday's semifinals, Montgomery's 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback over unseeded Solana Sierra of Argentina put her in a junior slam final for the first time.
