Eight FAQs About Tennis Recruiting Network's Site
Share:

Tennis Recruiting Network receives emails and phone calls every week from players, parents and coaches with specific inquiries about the website, rankings or profile pages.

In order to help distribute the information to a wider audience, we’ve provided answers to the eight most frequently asked questions:

When will TennisRecruiting.net switch back to one year of results in the rankings instead of 66 weeks?

TRN switched back to 52 weeks on Monday, June 21st.

Why are some of my results listed for a tournament last weekend but not the ones played on Monday and Tuesday?

TRN runs the boys ranking calculation early Monday morning and then updates these profiles overnight and publishes them on Tuesday morning. Therefore, any publish that is late or matches played early the next week will not be reflected until the following week’s publish.

When will the Fall Rating Period start?

The eight-week Fall Rating Period will begin the week on July 26th. A player’s star rating will be determined by the highest two rankings during these eight weeks.

When are profiles and rankings updated?

TRN updates the boys’ profiles, player records and rankings on Tuesdays and the girls’ on Wednesday. The matches listed under “Activity” reflect the matches used in that week’s rankings.

Is a profile on TRN the same as an account?

No. TRN creates player profiles when a player competes in an event that is used in the ranking system. The player is listed with a provisional graduation year based on the competitive age group.

TRN depends upon the players and parents to a) register for a free account on TRN b) link this account to the player’s profile and c) confirm the graduation year. Contact information can be entered under Update Private Information for the college coaches to use in the recruiting process.

Is it a good idea to check Academic Interests in the Private Information section of the player’s profile?

Absolutely. College coaches have the ability to create special lists of players interested in certain academic disciplines that their colleges offer. By checking academic interests in the profile, players will be listed on these special rank lists for the coaches. Otherwise the player will not appear on any list.

Which tournament results are used in the TRN rankings?

With the advent of the new USTA level tournaments, TRN now uses results from all level 1-6 events and selected events from L7 tournaments. For an event in a L7 to qualify, 20% of the competitors in that event need to be national players on TRN on the start date of the tournament. A national player is denoted with a shield below the state flag on their profile.

UTR has several different event series, and we will include results from any tournament on the ITA Summer, Fall, and Winter Circuits, UTR Junior Nationals or UTR High School Nationals series. Outside of the tournaments in these series, we will include any tournament with 16 or more players and 16 or more results where over half of the players are currently ranked on TRN. For any tournament we use, we will only consider the matches between players of the same gender since we do independent boys and girls rankings. For a UTR event to be considered, it must be a “tournament” on the UTR website; we do not count events such as “Friday Night Match Play” or “Club Ladder Play.”

My child is under 13 and can’t register for an account. What can I do as a parent?

Due to COPA laws, we expect parents of very young children to register for an account for themselves and then link this account to their player’s profile.

If you have a problem linking your account to your child’s profile, you need to supply TRN with your child’s date of birth and USTA member number so you can link your account to your child’s profile.

  • If you have any other questions or concerns about TRN, feel free to contact Julie Wrege, 770-993-5723, [email protected].
