Paige Herremans became interested in computer science after taking a class during her freshman year of high school. She thought pursuing a career in cyber security would be an ideal job path for the future. Herremans just needed to find a college that matched her aspirations.

Nearly a year later, she began receiving recruiting information from the service academies. She started doing more research and was intrigued.
“The more I learned about Army, the more I became interested in it,” Herremans said. “I knew they had a computer science program and also a cyber program, and I've always wanted to give back and serve my country in any way I could and make a difference. That is really what appealed to me.”
Herremans’ commitment to the Black Knights became official last month. The four-star rising senior from Orlando has some family history of military service. Her grandparents on her mother’s side both served in the Army and her uncle served in the Air Force.
Herremans realizes her commitment goes well beyond the standard four years of college, and that was part of the attraction to the Army.
"I was excited about it because I can continue to do what I love,” she said. “Hopefully, I will be able to get a job in the field I want and after those five years I can stay another 20 or 30. I think I want to stay in as long as I can."
