Jacob Jung did not always plan to go to college. Jung thought his path in tennis would lead him straight to the professional ranks.

But the Upland, Calif., resident suffered an elbow injury that kept him off the court for a year and altered his perspective.

"After that happened, I decided there was no way of going pro and going to college was the best choice," Jung said. "I am glad I did because there is no way you can really make a living as a pro unless you are in the top 100 or so. I had to face the reality that college is definitely the way to go."

And the way Jung chose to go was staying close to home. He has verbally committed to attend UC Irvine and become an Anteater.

Along with the location, Jung, 17, liked UCI head coach Trevor Kronemann and has friends who play on the team.

"I was home-schooled, so just the atmosphere between playing with all your teammates and traveling a lot is exciting to me," Jung said. "I love talking with other people and I don't like being on the court by myself that much. Having other teammates cheering me on should be great."
