Shawn Becker never felt the need to “come out” publicly because he never hid his sexuality. He was a gay male, and he was comfortable with anyone knowing.
Authenticity and honesty have always guided Becker, and he made them core values when he became a college coach at the age of 23.

In his first season guiding a program, one of Becker’s players asked why he never brought his girlfriend around.
“I told her she was barking up the wrong tree, and she realized what I meant. From there, it all kind of clicked with her and she thought it was really cool I wasn’t trying to fool them or anything,” Becker said. “They liked they I didn’t try to act like someone I was not. Ever since then, I was out to my teams in college and it has never been an obstacle for me.”
