“They always told me I was never good enough, and it was just motivation to work even harder,” Campana said. “I knew if I was good enough to play with them, I would be good enough to play with nearly anyone my age.”
Campana rose to the challenge and developed into an elite player on the junior circuit. The blue chip from Hillsborough, California is preparing to begin her freshman year at Vanderbilt.
Having toured several colleges during the recruiting process, the private research university in Nashville was actually the last school Campana visited.
“The second I stepped on campus, I knew it was where I wanted to go,” she said. “I didn’t know what to expect and I was trying to keep an open mind. But something about the campus and about the way the people were so friendly and the way the coaches greeted me, I knew I was going to fit in.”
