Sean Maymi’s tennis coaching portfolio spans nearly every level. He’s been an assistant coach for Division I, Division II and Division III programs. He’s coached professional players and up-and-coming juniors.
It’s never been about the title for Maymi. It’s always been about the opportunity to help players and grow his own knowledge base.

“I think that speaks for Sean’s love of the sport and commitment to his students,” said Todd Martin, a former ATP Top 10 player and current CEO of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. “Sean has never demonstrated that he can only work with one type of student. He is the type of guy that whoever comes to him with the desire to get better, he is going to pour his heart into it.”
After more than a decade as a Division I assistant, Maymi has finally elevated to running his own program. He was named the head coach for the Nebraska men’s program last month.
The move keeps Maymi in the Big Ten Conference, having served two stints as the associate head coach at Michigan.
“It had to be a really special spot to feel like I wanted to make that jump,” Maymi said. “There had been a couple of other openings that intrigued me and I looked into, but it had to be something better than what I had at Michigan. Nebraska was definitely a place I thought I could be successful.”
