Conference Highlights
Cal Poly has held an ITA top 75 ranking (out of 320 DI schools) during each season from 2003-2009. Conference champions of the tough Big West Conference in 2003, we play a schedule of the nation's best, including: Stanford, UCLA, Pepperdine and USC among others. Follow us as the 2010 season progresses, as we have an experienced, motivated and talented team this season!
Post Season Highlights
The doubles team of Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong won 5 consecutive matches at the All American Tournament in doubles in 2007. They earned wins over doubles teams from TCU, Georgia Tech and Florida in the event. The team followed it up with a stellar 2008 season, reaching the NCAA Championships in doubles (one of only 32 teams to do so)!
Tournament Highlights
Cal Poly players Brittany Blalock and Suzie Matzenauer have posted Fall 2009 wins over players from Stanford, Cal Berkeley, Pepperdine, Georgia and Florida at the All American Tournament and ITA NW Regionals. Watch for this pair to lead the way for the Mustangs in 2010!
Individual Achievements
Cal Poly Fall 2009 Highlights: Brittany Blalock is ranked #67 in the ITA national rankings for Fall 2009. During her Cal Poly career she has defeated Yasmin Schnack of UCLA, Maria Sanchez of USC and Yvette Hyndman of Georgia. She also reached the NCAA Championships in doubles with partner Steffi Wong. Suzie Matzenauer also had a dominant Fall 2009 season. In addition to being ranked #31 nationally in doubles, she has defeated players from Stanford, Cal and Florida in singles!
Coaching Achievements
With 20 winning seasons in 23 years of collegiate coaching Coach Hugh Bream has a proven track record of success. Currently in his 10th season coaching Cal Poly Women's Tennis, Hugh previously served as coach of the Cal Poly Men's Team as well as the San Diego State Men's program. Hugh also led the US National Boy's 16 Junior Davis Cup Coach 1986-1988, working with Michael Chang, Jim Courier and Jared Palmer. He has also developed numerous top level junior competitors, including: US #2 Ditta Huber and most recently 2007 Southeast Region Freshman of the Year Stefan Hardy of North Carolina and 2008 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year Andre Dome (2X Easter Bowl finalist). He also coached world #28 Ginger Helgeson on the WTA tour from 1990-1994." My coaching philosophy is to create a challenging, fun and team oriented environment that allows our ladies to reach their fullest potential as student-athletes", states Coach Bream.
