Five-Star Maheshwari Rejoices in Acceptance to Penn
Share:

It didn’t take Sonia Maheshwari very much time to make her commitment to the University of Pennsylvania once she was offered a spot on the team last May.

But the five-star senior from Morrisville, North Carolina felt much more secure in her status after receiving her acceptance letter from Penn this month.

"UPenn was always where I wanted to go. I just thought if they offered me, I knew at the end of the day I would say yes,” she said. “UPenn checks all the boxes and it's my dream school so there was no reason to delay the inevitable."

Despite being her top choice in the end, UPenn was not on Maheshwari’s list when she first began thinking about college. She was concerned about receiving athletic financial aid, which the Ivy League programs don’t have.

"A couple of years ago, I thought I would just go to the best public school and go get a full scholarship somewhere,” she said. “But attending UPenn is an amazing opportunity to go to one of the best schools in the nation and world through tennis."
