Countdown: Alex Angyalosy Chooses the Red Raiders

Five-star recruit Alex Angyalosy from Boca Raton, Fla., has committed to join the Texas Tech University women's tennis team.

Alex Angyalosy has committed to Texas Tech
Angyalosy will definitely delight Lady Red Raiders fans at the McLeod Tennis Center with her all-around, counter-puncher style of play. But Angyalosy, an honor student at the Florida Virtual School, also plans to pursue the pre-medicine program at the northwestern Texas institution, located in Lubbock.

"My goal is to achieve pre-medicine through the honors college," Angyalosy said. "If I graduate Texas Tech with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, I get direct acceptance into their med school without having to take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).

"Ever since I was in middle school, I had been part of the accelerated math and science classes. Having such a passion for those two subjects, it made my decision to pursue medicine that much easier. With all of these great opportunities, for my education, I knew that Texas Tech was the best all-around choice for me."

Angyalosy also considered Ohio State, Northwestern, Columbia, and Alabama.

Now, back to the subject of tennis for this well-rounded young lady. Angyalosy is ranked 44th on the Babolat National Recruiting Lists, 12th in the Southeast, and ninth in Florida. She has an ITF ranking of 318, and an RPI of 91.

The talented Angyalosy has experienced some success in ITF tournaments. She has competed in Morocco, Hungary, Berlin, Poland, and Costa Rica, to name a few locales. Angyalosy has captured doubles titles in El Salvador and Guatemala. She also was a singles and doubles finalist in Puerto Rico.

Closer to home, Angyalosy won the USTA Closed Regional Singles Championship last October at Norcross, Ga.
