The 16-year-old Coppoc, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently gave her verbal commitment to the University of Georgia. She will graduate high school in 2017.

Coppoc, a rising junior taking classes with Oklahoma Connections Academy for high school, previously attended Jenks Public Schools. She trains at Tucker Tennis Academy in Tulsa.

After visiting the University of Georgia last fall and having taken a few unofficial visits to other schools, Coppoc was starting to narrow down her choices, which seemed to be the West Coast or Georgia.

"I was most drawn to the Georgia program," Coppoc said. "When Coach [Jeff] Wallace and Coach [Drake] Bernstein made the offer, it caught me a little by surprise, but I also knew that is where I wanted to be."

"[The offer] was great," Coppoc added. "I just wasn't expecting to receive an offer quite this early, but I am happy I did."

Coppoc said the coaching staff and team atmosphere were most important to her and weighed heavily in her decision. The fact that the Bulldogs ended the year ranked fifth in the country was also an attraction. It is the Bulldogs' third-straight season with a top-5 finish and the 15th top-5 finish in head coach Wallace's 30-year tenure at the school. The squad advanced to the semifinals this season.

"I wanted to work with coaches that could help me continue to develop my game," Coppoc said. "I think Coach Wallace and Coach Bernstein can do that and will both be a great fit for me. The program is consistently strong year after year, and there is a history and level of community support at Georgia that is very special.

"Off the court, the facilities are excellent, the campus is beautiful and I loved Athens," Coppoc continued. "Education is also important to me. UGA offers strong programs in several areas of interest so I am confident about my options and the quality of my courses."

Coppoc is undecided on what she will study at UGA.
